Getting a good sports bra, which fits well and keeps you comfortable, can be a challenge. To help you out, we asked Suzannah - our Run Marketing Manager, to give her opinion on the affordable and well made Shock Absorber Classic Sports Bra.
Shock Absorber has been my go-to sports bra brand for over 15 years, so it's fair to say that I've tried nearly every single bra in their most recent (and past) ranges. Yet, somewhat bizarrely, I'd never tried the one at the very heart of the collection: the Classic.
I have wanted to try the Shock Absorber Classic Sports Bra for a while, but ever since I found and settled on the Shock Absorber Active Multi Sports Support, that's what became my go-to for high intensity workouts. Rather than buy into another style, I simply stocked up with a new colour of the Active Multi when each season came around. Finally, I gave the Classic a go… and despite being hesitant about swaying from my favourite Active Multi, it was worth the change…
While it doesn't feel as sleek as the Active Multi - mainly due to the thicker back section; all of Shock Absorber's best qualities are still very definitely there: the secure feel, the soft straps, the flat hook and eye fastening, and a refusal to move even during the most enthusiastic burpee-heavy workout.
If one thinks about the simplicity of the design, it's surprising just how supportive the Classic feels. It doesn't have the double back fastening of the Active Multi, or the extra clasp of the Run Bra; but Shock Absorber's commitment to fit, means that it still delivers an outstanding performance.
With the exception of the super-quick Zipped Plunge, the Classic is the easiest Shock Absorber bra to get on and off. Every other bra - including the Active and the Run, takes a few uses to come up with a specific technique. (For both, I recommend leaving the top strap fastened, then putting it on over your head.) For the Classic, just use exactly the same method that you do when putting on your everyday bra.
Of course, having been a loyal fan of the Shock Absorber Active Multi Bra for so long, I'm not about to suddenly swap my allegiance and only ever buy the Shock Absorber Classic. The slimmer double straps across the Active Multi's back are worth the stretch overhead, when putting it on and taking it off. However, the Classic has most certainly secured a place in my core training kit – no question. It is also going to be extremely easy to replace in the future: first, because one of the lowest price bras in the collection; and second, because it just seems to always be in Shock Absorber's range.
Sure, there are plenty other bra styles and brands available – and many with intricate strap details that look absolutely super. But if you are doing high intensity workouts, I would recommend layering-up and using the Shock Absorber Classic as the foundation on which to build the rest of your outfit.
